The pits are always full for crate racing. Go to Screven and tell me about the stands being full on Saturday. They tear down the top 3 and then those same top 3 need to get the motors to a qualified rebuild to put them back together. What was Overton driving a new longhorn or a xr-1 ? 50k didn't cover the cost of that ride.

That was as serious of a whooping as you can put on ‘em. They had a pretty good crowd for out there. As good as I have seen there. I tell y’all there’s a 4 page thread about unglueing the Supers, Overton was driving his car like a flat kart. I know that’s not an everywhere problem but that was like watching that new high downforce low horsepower cup rules package. Or a slot car race or something.

Shovel on a little more coal, then when we cross white oak mountain, watch 97 roll!

Id say it’s proibably 4-5 year old longhorn. Brandon won 20 grand in that car last November so it’s definitly paid for itself

He runs crates weekly right? So those of us who felt super guys shouldn’t really be allowed, and we are ignorant, we were pretty far off right? Top 4 outta 5 have been in supers.

I know why VMS/Lester doesn’t limit it, I do, and there are some tough crate guys, but it sucks that when the big money is on the line, the super guys more often than not, take it.
Up in the air who my next “favorite” driver is. Really losing hope on Bloomer getting anywhere back to “normal”.

Not Necessarily weekly Super drivers though, it's the national touring guys. If you put up 50 grand to win, you let anybody run. That's not small time money. They had a pretty good crowd for out there, but they didn't have like "a good crowd". When my Dad was a pit steward the promoter taught him how to estimate a crowd, My count was roughly 1000 people general admission. i didn't do the pits. You need some star power or you won't have but 300 people in the stands for crates, fair or not that's how it is.

I guess that's why crates should not be $50k to win. It's a fight against the economics of the class.

I agree and disagree I guess. Hell I would totally say it's cool if they had a $5000 to win FUEL or I-95 challenge race the same night so us steel block/525 guys could join the fun. The issue I guess is that no matter what you do or say there's a real stigma about crate late models. It's the most polarizing division in stock car racing. Is that fair? Life ain't fair. A bunch of my friends have them even. None of them made the show last night. But I don't have a problem with my buddies having their own World 100 right in our back yard, I ain't that much of an a-hole... The Sawyer family definitly have big hearts. I know they have money but still there's no way that event turned a profit on gate receipts(at least figuring only the front gate). I mean I went, right So I can't be that against it.

Dlmfan123 is correct. It’s a 4 year old longhorn. And I’ve already heard you can buy it straight from VMS victory lane for 40k.

After that show this weekend , vms should be considered the "Eldora" for crate racing every year, (nobody saw 113 coming)........and I know how many of you feel about crates.

Nice job to vms and the fastrack folks, I'm not sure how anyone can have a bad thing to say about getting 100+ race teams and a decent crowd of fans to drive to the middle of nowhere to watch and participate in a cool racing event at a premier facility.........I wasn't there but I heard the place had a great buzz in the air all weekend.......I see it doing nothing but growing.

As long as the cars are " the same" basically under the hood the better drivers will always rise to the top, but the format this weekend still made the best driver earn it....I'm ok with it.
Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

Great post, was just expounding on your world 100 mention.......what's the trick figuring the attendance? ( I always estimated rows down and rows across and multiplied then added in a small percentage )

Maybe it makes more sense than is visible on the surface to me. I really don't know they had 140+ cars counting the support division which I'd be surprised if they brought it back. Maybe Mr Sawyer just wanted to have a party at the end of the year. I know I was out there last year at a race and they had said they got a call from a very famous dirt track wanting to know about a rumor, that rumor had to have been this race. so if every car brought 2 people thats quite a a lot of back gate money, I dunno. It has to be feasible or they wouldn't repeat it, right?

the trick's simple Big A, what you do is count one section, I was sitting in section L, I came up with about 65 people, there were some kids in there, probably a couple people in the restroom or getting a barbecue sandwich with slaw and hot sauce, then you multiply the number in the section you counted by the number of sections. it's harder the more people there are. It 's always less than you think, every time and it's not exact, just a ballpark. But according to Greg, you could get really close like that.

Do you still do the race for the kids now that it's not Ultimate anymore? we'll be there this year , if I don't have to work or something, 97 car red ancient Swartz car.

Crate Racing has allowed many people to keep racing, I know it personally kept me in the seat at one point. As a small time owner/driver, I always tried to have the car 'pay for itself' or at least not have to mortgage my house. I actually made money with the crate car (and won a BBQ dinner and a trip to the beach). This was a few years ago so maybe I couldn't do it now, but at the time everyone was yelling about cheating and it may have been happening but we won our share and were straight up.
