One last gift from Bloomquist, I hope they like it... lol"In the Republic of Mediocrity, Genius is Dangerous." - Robert Green Ingersoll

Kirkpatrick actually isn't an engineer. I think he started out college in that field, but switched gears.Originally posted by Henry Every View Post
If something works it only makes sense to start from where they left off. I have influences and aspects from many builders I like. Kirkpatrick has the advantage of being an engineer so starting clean sheet may come easier for him. Rocket grew out of Bullitt, Barry Wright grew out of a Holman-Moody if memory serves, Warrior/Bloomquist grew out of Rayburn and many of the modern upstarts copied Longhorn and/or Rocket. Sadly it seems most just do a direct copy with no upgrades of there own. I think GRT was unique, but he may have had influence from Shaw, but thats outside my pool of knowledge. Obviously All those I've mentioned have evolved over time, but they made the rational decision to start from where they knew what worked. I use to have a 2000 Barry Wright, the rumor was that it was a GRT copy, but I can tell you the only thing it shared with the GRT was that they were both under rail cars, but the similarities ended there. Cages were different, pickup points were different, spindles different, rack width was different, rear width was different, much more than the naked eye can see.
There are a lot of things that could be improved from a clean sheet. The original design was not intended to be raced all FDAU. Everything since then has been a series of small changes.Modern Day Spec Wedge Racing

Yes, I agree. Well then he(AK) was very brave/confident to go blank sheet. His youtube channel is pretty cool. I will say, the (2) chassis I find the most intresting today are 1. Team ZERO and 2. Domination Chassis by Rusty Schlenk. I like how Rusty did the rear clip specifically. My dream car I guess would be a Sweet/Bloomquist drivers compartment(main hoop) forward and a Domination rear section.Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View Post

Sounds familiar. I know in the electronics world of musical instrument effects, the only thing that can be patented is the artwork on the circuit board. Anyone can reverse engineer a schematic out of it and build their own version (which is 99% of the market).Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View Post
No. There never has been. It would be too easy to beat anyway. Just change one little small thing to make it look different. Besides Kirkpatrick, I don't think anyone has ever built a "clean sheet" design that wasn't in some way copied from a major builder's car.

Do you know anything more about his background? Was curious as to not just where he got his knowledge but also his funding?Originally posted by MasterSbilt_Racer View Post

Austin was going to college for engineering but changed and ended up with a business degree, IIRC. He has an engineering mind so it comes fairly natural to him.Originally posted by Tyy7777 View Post

Funding: believe it or not contrary to what people say, its self funded and mostly hard work and lots of hours vs just buying stuff. Sure he's had sponsors and what not help along the way, but nothing like a 6 figure sponsorship or anything remotely like. However most of that sponsorship came after he beat Overton with the straight axle car at Cherokee, once people knew who he was. People will say his dad funds his operation, sure his dad is a very successful business man but since Austin graduated college the racing is on Austin's dime not the family.

After watching his video about the straight axle car, I could see how it would just be cheaper for him to do it himself since a lot of the ideas either didn't exist in a dirtcar or presented a specific challenge that needed to be overcome.Originally posted by billetbirdcage View Post

Good to know. Cool to see kids make it on their own dime and not someone else's.Originally posted by billetbirdcage View Post

Sure. First, I like swingarms. Second, I like how Rusty designed the rear clip, from main hoop to the tail. The replaceable fuel cell section I think is cool.Originally posted by Tyy7777 View Post
