If that is who he is referencing, I don't believe one crew guy did that team in. That team is proof that throwing money around doesn't necessarily put you at the top of the sport.

I ain't naive about anything. I've been around this stuff for the better part of 35 years. If you think these drivers are hiring crew members off of zip recruiter, or based off their LinkedIn profile, you may be the naive one. The guys who are hired to make the car fast are mainly hired based off their results with other teams. These guys don't generally come into the sport on top of their game, they usually come in as a lower level crew guy and work their way up, once they are established winners their market value increases and other teams will start trying to hire them away from their team. The faster they can make the car the more sought after they are.... hence why Cody Mallory never lacks for work long, even being less than a stellar human being.

Well if you ask me its about finding guys who know what they're doing but also who fit your goals and what you want to achieve.

If I was running a run heavy offense in football, I'm not going to go out and get 3 TEs who can't block no matter how good they are.

If I'm running a Rocket, I'm not going to get a guy who works with Longhorn. I also need to make sure said setup guy knows how to set the car up for what my driver likes. You also need to speak the same language. It's not just results.

He started using the stinger chassis at one point. Edit; just looked it up, he won all the Ice Bowls in a Stinger Chassis except for his first when he had a Sweet Bloomquist with a 525

The first ice bowl was won in a 2014 bloomquist updated to a 17.....i own that car now and its still competitve.
