Thankfully, the USAC sprint car and midget series both invert the top 6 qualifiers. That at least provides for great racing in the heat races, with the fast qualifiers starting 6th. You must finish 5th or better to get your top six starting spot in the feature. Be interesting seeing the Lucas and WoO series try this concept. It will never happen.

Really not that hard to fix, put a big chunk of the pay on positions gained and let the drivers determine where they would like to start. If you want $20,000 to win, you have to earn it; thought it was great when Charlotte did it back in the day and always wondered why no one else tried again. I realize it is the 'what is fair and truly sporting vs. entertaining the fans, two different mindsets. Personally think the Fair goes on every year during the late summer/fall-cotton candy, fried foods and ferris wheels; racing needs to be entertaining to entice people to come watch and unfortunately that means shaking the playing field up.

The redraws kind of suck. I think they should just invert 4 in the heats, but award points for the Lucas regulars for qualifying, not just 10 bonus points. I also think if they have 16 Lucas guys, it should be 1-3-5-7-9-11-13-15 in Group A and 2-4-6-8-10-12-14-16 in Group B and everyone else draws randomly. You give out points for qualifying only for the Lucas guys. Still gives them incentive to qualify at the top and not shoot for the inverts.

Instead of having heat #1 winner start the feature 1st, heat #2 winner start 3rd, heat #3 winner start 2nd, and heat #4 winner start 4th, I've been thinking of another way to do it to mix it up a bit without doing full pill draw or inverts. I came up with flipping them. Have heat #1 winner start 4th, heat #2 winner start 2nd, heat #3 winner start 3rd, and heat #4 winner start 1st. Or just invert the heats - the group with the fastest qualifier in group A will be the 4th heat, fastest qualifier in group B will be the 3rd heat, and so on.
