For a bigger car count event, pill draw w/ passing points & perhaps qualifier races after the heats is the best way to go. Chili Bowl uses this format. Saves on burning up track in quals & some heats end up w/ a top flight car in the back so you get lots of action thru the night. Of course the touring drivers wouldn't go for it. It does provide the best show & the cream pretty much still rises to the top.

Time trials are really the only fair way to do things. You could tweak that some by drawing for heats, then your timing only against the guys in your heat. Run the program straight up from there.

It really only shows who's fastest, by themselves, on a hooked up track. Feature lap times from day 1 on a 2 day show would be more "fair"Originally posted by Josh Bayko View PostTime trials are really the only fair way to do things. The fans are 100% to blame for this garbage racing. They would rather see big names, go round and round in a circle with no passing than actual good racing. As long as they support these crappy formats, they will continue.
