    A large part of his dirty or borderline dirty stuff is a result of the allowance of that behavior in the modern era. Racers of an earlier era will tell you if you pulled some of that crap you'd better be prepared for the consequences that would follow you to the pits afterward, i.e. an azz whupping. Grew up in that period and can say from experience it straightened out many a rough driver. It may not be politically correct nowadays but it worked just fine.

        That & also in the "old days" driving over the edge came along with risk of getting seriously hurt on a more frequent basis. You see this in all forms of modern racing. There are guys that race midgets that drive as tho they are indestructible. Dirty sliders are the name of the game in that racing.

          I don't think it's what the race teams want. It's what is sold to them as a better product and convinced they need it to compete. The high costs are about to break a few teams.
