What's your top 5 MUST SEE dirt tracks other race fans should know about if they have a chance to see a race there - Hidden Gem that produces good racing?


TRACK - CITY / STATE
Fairbury American Legion Speedway - Fairbury, IL (LM, Mods) <> Would love to see a sprint show.
Kokomo Speedway - Kokomo, IN (For Sprints & Midgets)
Oakshade Raceway - Wauseon, Ohio - Any class. Racy track.
Lincoln Park Speedway - Putnamville, IN - Weekly show. N/W Sprint, Mod, Super Stock, Bombers
Vermilon County Speedway - Danville, IL - Any Class

Fairbury IL - a must see. Always multiple grooves. This kind of racing, is what other tracks dream about.
Knoxville IA - same but nice facilities. Best track prep in the country.
34 raceway Burlington IA - puts on good racing.
Lee County Donnelson IA - a sleeper. If there is a special there, try it. Seems lead changes are a way of life there.
Macon and BellClair IL - 1/5 mile Bull Rings. Tight, fast action. Is that a cushion or the wall?

1)-Kokomo Speedway, IN-Great 1/4 mile, multiple groove track that provides outstanding racing.
2)-Belle Clair Speedway, IL-1/5 mile bull ring. Best midget track in the country in my opinion.
3)-Knoxville Speedway, IA-Awesome facility. Nice 1/2 mile with great site lines from most any seat.
4)-Waynesfield Motor Sports Park, OH-Probably one of the best kept secrets in racing. A 1/3 mile with lots of room for side by side racing.
5)-Montpelier Speedway, IN-Another on the best kept secret list. Both midgets and sprints run well here but in my opinion the modifieds probably put on the best show. Always a nice field of cars.

I say all tracks are must-see. I wish I could retire and be a race chaser...maybe someday.

Hard for me to pick just 5. I will keep reading and see if all of them get listed.

I would have to go with these five :

1) Spoon River Speedway - Banner, IL. The racetrack has been around since the 1980s and always provides some of the best racing I've seen. From weekly racing, to their Summer Nationals event, even to when the MOWA Sprints and POWRi Midgets stop in - the racing is great. The 2014 SN Race was like no other. Props to Promoter Brad Denney and his father Morey for giving the drivers a great track that night. Feger, Babb and Unzicker all swapping back and forth for the lead. One of my personal favorites in Illinois.

2) Belle-Clair aka BelleVegas - Belleville, IL : While I've only been there once, I loved it. I went in 2014 for the Shamrock 40 LM Show and WOW - what a race... Id love to see a Midget race there. Only have seen video, but man its a neat little track

3) Macon Speedway - Macon, IL - Again, I've only been once but the racing action was awesome. Never seen anything like it. If you haven't been, you need to go.

4) Jacksonville Speedway - Jacksonville, IL - This track, Ive been attending races here since 2013. I've been hooked ever since I stepped foot on the property. The track is located at the County Fairgrounds and when the Sprints and Midgets are there, boy, do they put on darn good shows. Christopher Bell was there at the end of the season last year in his KKM #71 machine, won from the tail. He climbed the wall in turn four, lost a lot of ground, had a flat, went to the tail and rallied back to win. The BIG10 LM Series and SN put on a good show here as well. I enjoy the track, and the hospitality, everyone is very friendly!

5) Cedar County Raceway - Tipton, IA - Made the trip over to the USMTS show in May of 2014. This track is a gold mine. Very racy, multiple grooves, and FAST. I wish that it sat closer to home than it does.

I wish more people would see the new dirt tracks which have great spectator and racing team facilities:
(in order, MHO
1 - Charlotte
2 - Wheatland
3 - Texas
4 - Las Vegas

Charlotte may be #1 by a very small margin - it has lots of shows, and has the track entrance right in front of the fans. Wheatland (Lucas) has a better video screen, and some paved pit parking. Las Vegas gets a nod for the ability to push-start sprint cars off the track. Texas has the unique tunnel from the infield to the pits - but it really serves no purpose.

Please join me in urging Ed Clark and Bruton Smith to add a dirt track at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

1. River Cities Speedway: This track is very much outside of the National Spotlight with no big time races (aside from a WoO LM race). I can tell you first hand that this track has some of the best LM racing, and is home to in my opinion the BEST weekly program in the entire country.

2. Port Royal Speedway: From someone who isn't a fan of big tracks all the time. Port Royal is one of the raciest tracks in one of the raciest regions. If you live nearby and have never been, the show on Mar. 26 will be a must see! (410 Sprints, uFO SLM Series, uFO Semi Late Series).

3. Potomac Speedway: Every time I go to this track it is great racing, and elbows up. They don't always have the best car counts but they usually have the most quality in the area. Out of a 12-14 car field 8-10 cars will have a shot at the win.

4. Path Valley Speedway: I can't wait for the SLM show at Path this season. This is one of the raciest bullrings in the area, and the track crew are second to none.

5. The Dirt Track at Charlotte: This one is probably pretty obvious, but I would be remiss if I did not list (in my opinion) THE #1 Dirt Track in the country. This track is the total package, with a great surface, excellent facilities, perfect location and always great car counts. The one negative related to it is the fact that it is heavily under utilized. Lets get some Ultimate SLM, or another WoO LM race there during the season!

1. I94 Speedway- Fergus Falls, MN. Top notch facility. Sit or stand anywhere around the whole racetrack thanks to the track sitting down in a bowl. Huge grandstands and excellent tailgating options. Track is always prepped great. Best weekly program that I've seen. Modifieds never disappoint at this track. 15K USMTS Summersota Nationals should be a great event here in June..

2. River Cities Speedway- Grand Forks, ND. I'm not a huge sprint car guy, but RCS is one place you have to see WoO Sprints. If you hate Sprint Cars, just give them 1 chance and attend a WoO show here. They are insane on the bullring. The John Seitz Memorial Late Model race is one of the best specials in WISSOTA. Excellent racing all weekend in multiple classes..

3. Cedar Lake Speedway- New Richmond, WI. The USA Nationals is an awesome race. Great track. Have you seen their schedule? They run a special or host a touring event every weekend it seems. I wish that track was closer to home to see all the specials..

4. I80 Speedway- Nebraska. Only been their once and that was this year for Saturday's excellent SDN finale. Awesome wide track with tons of speed. Looks like they have a ton of specials like CLS too..

5. Park Jefferson Speedway. Jefferson, SD. 4/10 track that's egg shaped. Has tons of excellent racing weekly especially the modifieds. The MLRA and SLMR series' put on some of the best LM racing I saw all year there in 4 or 5 visits. The WoO Late Models should be a dandy show this year.

1) Fairbury - A must if you have never been.
2) Kokomo- Not really a hidden gem. Lots of people love it. But if you've not been there put it on your list.
3) Duquoin (Indoor Track) - Unbelievable facility and track. (USAC Midgets there on March 19)
4) Lincoln Park - Old track that is great for Sprints, LM's, Mods etc.
5) Lawrenceburg - (see #2)

Hoosier in regards to fan and team amenities, have you been to Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Virginia?

Amazing facility all around. They also have a consistently smooth and racy surface to boot.
