I would never attend a racetrack to see the crates run,,,, and the surest way to end up with a couple million dollars racing is to start out with 20 million!!!!!!
Rice brothers call it quits. Plans for rest of year up in the air.

You don't like crates but I can only (while not wanting to) imagine a bunch of 4 bangers at Flo.. Whats a lap around Florence anyway like 17 ish seconds or slower, in a super late model???! In the words of 'ole Bubba Smith, you can puff a stogie down the backstretch of a track of that size...Originally posted by Rollover View Postlet florence run a crate show as the headliner with no supers on the schedule and you will see half the amount of fans in the stands as a regular show. no where did i say they dont have close races they just suck to watch. reality is people like speed. hornets have side by side races all the time but they are not a headliner class just as crates are not

Very true sir, the Super Lates are what most of the fans come to see at Florence. Supers are my favorite followed by the Mods but I'm a fan of all good, close racing. I don't care if it's the Super Lates, Mods, Crates, Pure Stocks or Hornets. I perfer close, side-by-side racing. I can get fast when I go for a drive in my Corvette.Originally posted by Rollover View Postlet florence run a crate show as the headliner with no supers on the schedule and you will see half the amount of fans in the stands as a regular show. no where did i say they dont have close races they just suck to watch. reality is people like speed. hornets have side by side races all the time but they are not a headliner class just as crates are notLast edited by Gary; 05-10-2016, 06:35 PM.

I'll watch a tricycle race if the racing is good........Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

This gets my vote for post of the year!Originally posted by Gary View PostVery true sir, the Super Lates are what most of the fans come to see at Florence. Besides only the die-hard fans or racers know the difference between a crate or open dlm. Whats 1-2 seconds difference per lap?Turn LEFT, Vote RIGHT!

He1l why don't all the guys just sell all their racing operation and lets go fishing. Fishing is about as cheap as it can get. Shoot I think I will go buy me a $35000.00 bass boat. I think I will trade in my $45000.00 truck and get me a new 1 to pull it with as well since I have put 40000 miles on it going racing. The entry fees for all the local and regional bass tournaments are only $150. They usually have less than 200 boats for a tournament that pays $5000.00 to win and only pays to 10th place. No non qualifier money either. At least I won't have the purple mafia making me run their over priced tires though.
I have another idea. Lets all take up playing golf. I haven't had time to play much the last few years because of racing. This will give me a good reason to sell my clubs and upgrade. A good set of clubs will only cost about $5000.00 and just under a grand for new bag, shoes, and head covers. A new golf cart is on $7500.00 and a trailer is $1200.00 to pull it on. It's about the same as fishing for playing in tournaments. Entry fees are usually $250.00 but the payback is about the same. I bet I can get the purple mafia to put all the guys on a spec tire too. What do ya'll think? Any takers for a golf tournament?????.....
Come on guys. We all know racing is an expensive sport. Very very few of us do it because we plan on getting rich from it. We do it because we LOVE it. I would give my left nut to have had a chance that these guys have had. I didn't get that chance but it hasn't stopped me from living the moment and being PART of a race team. I put in my share of hours at the race shop every week that happens to be and hour and a half from my house. I work a job for 10hrs a day too. Not to mention I still had time to raise 4 kids and 2 step kids. All the cheerleading, the football, baseball, softball, and basketball games. I still did it. I managed it all. Nothing about it was easy but I did it.
Super Lates are over priced. Not a person on here can prove they aren't. But if you want to race 1 it is going to cost you a sh1t ton of money. If you want to bass fish its gonna cost you a stupid price for those toys. Say what you want but taking up golf is gonna cost the crap out of you too. No matter what kind of hobby any of us have it will be expensive. Simply because I want a better bullet than what the next guy has. It's our human nature to want bigger and better. There are people that can afford it and those that can't. That's just the way it is. Like I have said on here several times. If you can't afford a super, then run crates. If you can't do that then run a mod or a street car. If you can't do that then go buy you a 15lb ball and go BOWLING!!!!!

Your fishing Fishing Analogy isnt a good one .... Ive seen several guys win local tourney's out of a 17ft alum boat at cost $ 3500 used .... And be in the money against 40 boats every week .... The difference is they dont look as cool .... The saying is .....Once your drop the trolling motor and start fishing everyone is equal ....Retired - Snowbird ... Living the Dream

Your missing the point Bob and HH. I know a few guys that sport a brand new boat every other year. And I'm talking about the most expensive and best thing out there. They couldn't catch a fish out of a fish tank with a hoop net. Same goes for some of my golf buddies. Couldn't drive a ball down the fairway if they did it by hand from the cart. But how many guys are he1l bent on owning the best out there???...
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago a new comer to supers won a WoO show??? The point is, very few can afford it but those that can will buy what it takes to win. Or what they THINK it takes to win.

The only way to control cost is through the sanctioning body. Driver and owners that have money will out spend everyone else it's just the way it is. The sanctioning body has to put rules in place to control cost because the drivers and owners will not they are going to spend as much as it takes to win.

I think you might be missing the point, my brother is a "big time" tournament bass fisher with all the fancy stuff, the last two events, two older gentlemen showed up with, like bob said, an old 3500 dollar rig and handed him and the rest their azz. Now you show up at the race track with a 15 year old late model and a wore out 350 and you have absolutely no chance.....Originally posted by slmcrewchief99 View PostYour missing the point Bob and HH.
