Most people are not working for a good wage but, some are. I made a good living being in the union. Between the union and the company I was treated very good. Had good wage and great benefits. I didn't even pay for Healthcare for most of my time with th e company. Our division of the company never went on strike because we had a no strike claus built into our contract. Every 3 to 5 years when our contract came up for renewal and the company would give us more then than the union members were asking for and the members would accept the contract and vote to ratify it.

        All that wasn't free.....to anyone.

Bragging and being proud about " not going on strike" at a job you get paid to do isn't really a great redeeming feature where I come from......I don't really think I'm alone on that thought.
Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

          all what wasn't free?

I wasn't bragging just stating how we weren't about gouging the company by going on strike. The company asked for a no strike claus and we agreed to it because they have treated us so good in the past and we had no reason to fear that would change and it didn't the whole time I wasn't there.

Did you ever come up with a reason yet?

Your free health care wasn't free....your good Union wages cost the company and consumer extra.....and whatever dues you had to pay weren't free either.

What did I get wrong this time?

If a company wants good employees the company has to pay the price of good labor. You pay for what you get. Pay poor wages you get a poor work force. You pay great wages you get great employees. Great employees are hard working individuals and their productivity is a lot greater than a poor employee. This is why companies are willing to pay good salaries and have good benefits. I thought you all were for a capitalist society? Competition is good right? I glad I was able to work for unions and I was willing to pay my dues. The dues was well worth the great pay compare to a "decent" wage. Labor cost is just part of any business and will always be past on to the consumer. You purchase car insurance you are helping pay for someone salary and benefits.
Haters don't really hate you, in fact they hate themselves because you are a reflection of what they wish to be.

It was free to me up until the last 4 or 5 years I was with the company.

I can't help what the companies charged the consumer.

Yes I paid dues and yes that would mean it wasn't free but, trust me it wasn't a problem because, of the wage and benefit they bargained for me. I have worked for both union and non union companies and both have treated me good. Did I make more money and have better benefits being in the union without a doubt. If your insinuating you and others had to pay for me to have good wages and benefits thanks my family and I appreciate it. At least your money went to someone who worked for their money and didn't sit on their couch waiting for a check to arrive.

So your union had nothing but “great” employees and NEVER protected those who didn’t carry their weight ? I’m for equal pay for equal work and have been involved with 2 different and have knowledge about a third and they all seemed to protect the ones who didn’t want to work and carry their weight !

Yes the union does protect jobs for some who don't deserve it but, that's a very small percentage but, the union also told some members sorry but, you ---- up and we can't save you. We had a guy that was on call and we had a two hour call out window so, meaning you had to be on customer site within two hours and he showed up 6 hours later and to make matters worse for him at was at a 911 center. The CEO of the company got involved and with the President of the union and they agreed he needed to go and he was fired.

But, but, but.......in the first sentence , lol.

Unions at one time were necessary , needed and helpful ......just like pay phones.

The same reason the epa was formed......to protect us from ourselves.....they have outlived their usefulness but it's too big of a business to let fail.

because when men were killing them selves in coal mines for 2 bucks a day , while one man kept all the money , they were very necessary , that day has gone by , things are different now , as these workers kids and grand kids grew up and moved into management , they realized that treating there employees with dignity and respect was the way to go , the unions are steadily becoming obsolete down here because they have cost jobs , here is one example i personally know of , my uncle was a union steward for years at our local quarry , he did not like the way the " NEW " union was going and gave up his position , a few years later , another non union company bought them out , they had a way better deal , better retirement and benefits , they told the workers if they kept the union out , all the workers would be given the same benefits , the young gun hoe workers said no , we want our union , so they voted to keep it , company said ok , my uncle retired 3 years later , if the union would have been denied , he would be drawing nearly three times the retirement he is now , after 30 years as a union man , you can imagine what his thoughts are......
