The way this came about was some Senator (I think it was Grassley) proposed to terminate their health coverage and make them buy it on the exchanges instead. As this would result in all congressional staffers getting a net pay cut, it was decided to treat them just the same way everyone else with a job gets treated--EXEMPT from having to purchase coverage on the health exchanges.

If you have a job and are enrolled in employer based health care, then YOU TOO will be EXEMPT from having to purchase health insurance on the exchanges.

All this does is illustrate what happens to people who keep their heads buried in the right wing echo chamber. Rarely will they do their own research to discover truth, and they will cling to whatever crumb of misinformation they are given and NEVER question if it's true or what the real story is behind it.

Like someone said, "ya just gotta believe it's true and it WILL be true for you...."
The employer of the Congress is "we the people!" The way I understand it, Congress must get their insurance through the state exchanges of Obamacare BUT they get theirs subsidized. Why? Are members of Congress "poor"? Low income? Do they NEED to be subsidized? Really? If I chose to go to an exchange and I make $70K/year, would I get subsidized? Why the different standards?

You still haven't addressed the delays in implementation that Obama is giving (against the LAW). Why shouldn't EVERYONE be granted a delay if Obama thinks it's important enough to delay it for his selected chosen ones???

And for what its worth, here is a link to the complete final list of who will be exempted. If you read through it, it pretty much outlines that certain people will be exempted due to their financial circumstances in general. Of course no law can cover every eventual outcome or situation that will arise (just like no track rules, sanctioning body rules cover every eventual situation that can happen at a track) however the attempt is made to cover some of the special circumstances that can arise and outlines steps needed to take to obtain the waiver.

No sinister plots, no "we're exempting the Communist Party and the Socialist Progressive movement cuz they're our buddies" crap in it. Just plain, old fashioned common sense. Of course, I wouldn't expect anyone from the right wing GOTea party faction to be able to understand regular good old common sense, because basically that wing of the GOP doesn't really have any.

If that's "the way you understand it" then you need to go find some facts and set about getting a new understanding. Because you are completely mistaken. Quite frankly, I doubt I have ever come across someone so completely uninformed about a topic yet attempting to debate it.

That's because the "majority" of our nation is becoming more and more dependent on public assistance. Welfare and food stamps recipients have more than doubled since O took office in'08. Why get your Lazy A's out of bed and go to work when you can live pretty good while the responsible working people of our nation pay for it ? There is no incentive to work hard to get a better lifestyle when everything is handed to you for free. And how many of those who voted for O were illegals ? Guess we'll never know as long as he continues to shoot down any efforts to require a National Voter Registration Card. King O received 70% of the Hispanic vote in 2012. I'm sure all of them were legal since no documentation was required ! Why wouldn't they vote for him ? Free everything and a cell phone. Hell, he's a hero to them !

Obama wouldn't know a "fact" if it hit him square in his rear end ! He just tells everybody what they want to hear. Makes him popular to those who hang on his every word. You seem to have fallen for it as well. Someday you'll look back and see what a mess he's made of our country, and realize the truth about him.

So You don't think they receive a subsidy to purchase coverage under ObamaCare ? Is this story by Forbes (a very well accredited news agency) incorrect ? A very reliable source I heard reported they would receive a 72% subsidy to purchase their Healthcare plan. Did I hear wrong ?

By JAVIER MANJARRES Freshman Congressman Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) James Madison Congressional Accountability Act preventing Congress and their staffers from received an exemption from Obamacare, passed in the U.S. House of Representatives, as part of the Continuing Resolution. According to DeSantis’ office, the bill “prohibits the Obama administration from issuing special and unauthorized subsidies to members of Congress and congressional staff for use on the ObamaCare exchanges.” - See more at: http://shark-tank.net/2013/09/30/hou....ZCPFCOxb.dpuf

Ok. For the intellectually "challenged" shall we say?

You work and pay part of the insurance premium. Your company pays the rest. Is your company "subsidizing" your health insurance? Or is the health insurance part of your compensation package, part of the benefits you get along with paid vacation, paid sick, 401K matching contributions?

Your answer will reveal EXACTLY your real level of understanding of the issue you are so desperately trying to completely misrepresent as favoritism, when it amounts to nothing more than replacing the employer contribution that Congressional staffers lose under Obamacare.

FOX is mostly partisan. Would you rather be lied to, by them ALSO???? You don't realize this but the Progressive party has taken total ownership and totally biased control of most other networks. If you are happy listening to a supposed Democratic source of news and buying into to all of the lies along with not hearing the other side of the story or in fact not even getting certain stories and actual news at all, then I ask why? Does that make it all much simpler and secure to know that your Masters in government telling you that everything is okay, who your enemies are (only those pesky Republicans) and illegal immigrants, terrorists, Al Qaida, and all others are not a problem then I understand totally.

Bet you even actually believe that American citizens who actually see the truth and what is REALLY going on are just radicals, racists, and people who dislike the Democrat Party. They have trained you well as well as others to fight against each other when we mainly have common grounds.

Progressives have made a lot of progress in getting their way to further power from their evil ways and it is disappointing to see people even at this point having no clue as to what is really going on in the world and this country. People in Europe can see what's happening over here far better than millions of our own clueless and duped citizens.

These GOTea Party people keep claiming they represent the "American People" and act as if they are speaking for a majority. They aren't. Obama beat Romney by 5 million votes, Democrats garnered the majority of the popular vote in this nation for the Presidency, House and Senate. When you count the sum total of votes cast, the majority in this nation voted for Democrats, not Republicans. It is only by gerrymandering districts that Republicans are still in seats, because in certain districts, carefully manipulated and laid out to preserve Republican representatives, the GOTea party is preferred.

However, as the old rich white people in those districts die off, fewer and fewer will be Republican dominated and there will be a sea change in our government. It's coming because more Republican voters die every year than are being recruited. Simple fact.

Personally I hope this goes on and on and on until Boehner and the Republicans cry Uncle. If we default, if this turns into a national catastrophe, kiss the Republican party bye bye and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Sure, some of you on here are so entrenched in your hatred of Obama and the Dems you will continue to scream it's all their fault, no matter what the facts and circumstances point to, and no matter what will blame Dems and the President for whatever happens.

However, back to my earlier point, the majority of votes cast in this nation was for Obama and the Democrats, end of story, so no matter how hard you try to forget that fact or just to twist this situation around so the President and Democrats are the bad guys, the majority in this nation know the truth and won't blame anyone but the ridiculous GOTea Party for causing this disaster.

Why do you think Obama isn't going to negotiate? Because even he knows the GOTea Party is putting the gun to their own heads on this one. He isn't going to get hurt one bit if they pull the trigger.
Tea Party is not putting a gun to nobodies head. I can't say that I have ever ran into someone SO stuck up the hindend of a Party of lies and deceit in my life. The more they lie, the more YOU love it. Totally insane thought processes.

                      Since you respect "Forbes".......

From the article blasting Boehner for being a two faced lying scumba.... Republican Speaker of the House....

"Of course, helping every American to be treated just as Congress has been treated for all these years is precisely what the Affordable Care Act is all about, despite Boehner’s protestations to the contrary. While Congress has always been provided with high quality health insurance as part of its employee benefits package, the same has certainly not been true for every American, including those with no insurance whom are suddenly the subject of Speaker Boehner deeply-felt concerns."

It goes on to speak in more depth about "employer contributions" that congressman and their staffers lose under Obamacare, and then states the removal of those employer contributions (what you and your ilk have now rebranded "subsidies" because it just sounds so darned ordinary and acceptable to recognize them as "employer contributions" just like everyone else gets) is unfair to the staffers because they earn too much to qualify for the Obamacare subsidies for low earners (yes, those are actually "subsidies" to help the poor). So a provision was made to compensate them for what they lost in "employer contributions" by increasing their compensation to cover their out of pocket loss.

So in answer some bright bulbs comment about "Wut!??? I make 70 gs a year, duz that make me por so bad I need government subsidy?" The answer is well, dypshyt, if you made 70 grand a year and some ignorant GOTea party whack job decided to cut your employer contribution to your health plan because of a stupid political stunt designed to try and smear the other party, wouldn't you think it a little unfair? Not to mention a huge pay cut that you did not deserve?

Kudos to Congress for one thing. They aren't making the innocent workers for the Federal Government and Congressmen the fall guys for their stupidity.

Now there are republicans saying not paying the nations debt is not that big of a deal. That is coming up on the 17th of this month. If interest rates change, do you realize how much 1% of 17 trillion dollars is? Most people think the treasury sets interest rates on bonds, but it is more of an auction. If the confidants of the buyer is shaky the interest rate goes up to a point the bonds sell. The S&P rates the risk, but if they don't sell, the rates are changed. We lost a point for one quarter last time these games where played in Congress. More money was spent on interest than what they where bargaining for as cuts.

Conservatives don't want to "Not pay the bills". They want to look at ways of getting rid of ridiculous, wasteful spending so we can pay our bills without borrowing again and again. Can't you see the difference? Conservatives want to "Teach everyone how to fish", while Liberals want to borrow money and buy everyone a fish. Which one do you think would be better in the long run ?????
