I'm not a fan of the national enquirer either................therefor, I just don't read it.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

I only met arnhead a couple of times casually way back in 1986 and 1987 so just how "good" of a man he was, or was not, is not something I have enough information to be qualified to comment on. And, guys like J.D. McDuffy, Jimmy Means and Alan Kulwicki had to work a lot harder than arnhead for a lot less so that whole scenario doesn't hold all that much water.Originally posted by Captain Happy View PostDale sr was a good man who worked hard for what he got. If ya didn't like how he raced ya, you chould have stayed on the porch!
Also, what he did to other competitors really wasn't particularly of much interest, either, but we all have our thoughts on that subject one way or the other. I always figured if the guy arnhead stuffed in the wall didn't feel compelled to do anything about it why should I care.
The point at which NASCAR, and more specifically Billy France Jr., allowed a whole different interpretation, enforcement and degree of penalization of the rules for arnhead and RCR as opposed to most other teams and drivers was where the bone of contention lies.
Stated plainly, there was in fact, one set of rules for arnhead and another for all the rest and it was evident and proven many, many times.
My beef was always with NASCAR and Billy France and "stayin' on the porch" had nothing to do with it. As I stated in another post, we'll never truly know just how good ol' arnhead really was, that will never be completely clear due to NASCAR's favoritism muddying up the waters.Last edited by CIRF; 03-19-2015, 10:29 AM.

I think even the most ardent supporters of the 3 couldn't argue a whole lot with that statement.........good post cirf.Originally posted by CIRF View PostI only met arnhead a couple of times casually way back in 1986 and 1987 so just how "good" of a man he was, or was not, is not something I have enough information to be qualified to comment on. Especially the part that said, we will never really know how good he really was due to the playing field being somewhat tilted back then...........I mean let's face it, he was a cash cow for club France.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

Good advice Nasty!!Originally posted by Nasty55 View Post2974 views and 86 Post's I'd say that plenty of people are watching this thread!!! Just a little suggestion if you don't like something you see on 4 m then you might want to invest in a pair of blinders.... Just sayin... And from the way you talk and type if I didn't know any better I'd say that you've probably had a few other names banned on here haven't you?

Fellows now really? I don't have a dog in this debate about Nascar and Earnhardt, but to say you would never know how good he was is a bit of a stretch. Like him or hate him he had as good of car control and high level skill as any other top driver in the sport.

In Dale's defence I helped a guy that run at Hickory speedway and Dale was just starting to run asphalt and he ran some junk equipment was fair at best and that was because of the lack of good stuff. I am a Dale fan because of seeing him when he didn't have the best but I know about the true blue fans that think he could walk on water they can be a little annoying.

You have a very good point about his car control( and even his use of the horn), but what I took cirf to say( and I agree with) is it would have been nice to just see him race without all of the France nonsense that surrounded his camp.Originally posted by TS FAN View PostFellows now really? If jimmy Johnson were to take club France on yearly off season deep sea fishing trips, have them over for dinner regularly, or anything of that sort it would appear to be improper and borderline unethical.
The man was great........probably created more synergy in nascar than anybody ever did or will ever again, but as an amateur wannabe historian of racing, I have read numerous articles with references that would imply a smidge of favoritism when it came to certain things that went on back then.( which today would be completely improper).....it's just the way it was done( and not just in nascar)
I'll just say once more , it's not e sr that I have any problem with.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

I have to agree with you here BBQ... E Sr was a great ambassador of the sport back in the day when things weren't so taboo persay... E Sr had great car control and would horn his way thru wherever he needed to go but to be totally honest and unbiased I don't think that he could handle racing under today's rules and today's aero packages on the cup cars!! But thats just my opinion. Now don't get me wrong I'm not taking anything away from E Sr because as I stated he was a great racer I just don't think he would like the cars of today is all....If you can't race it or take it to bed! It ain't worth having!

Dale srs career was a microcosm of that snowy day along the east coast where we all were locked in to watching the 500 live.
He brought more folks along for the ride and into nascar than the fight between Yarborough and Allison ever did.
Oh, and he won a lot more than they ever did too.....
Just wish he would have left some of the fans behind to polish up on there hidden disco fever.Where is the move over flag when you need it?????

As far a likin' or hatin' goes, I didn't know the guy well enough to say either way. He did nothing to me or affected the quality of my life one way or the other.Originally posted by TS FAN View PostFellows now really? Car control? David Pearson, Tim Richmond and Cale Yarborough come to mind as displaying the best car control with arnhead coming in somewhere slightly below those 3. David Pearson, The King, Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson and maybe even Alan Kulwicki are considered to be the epitome of drivers who were/are the best at calculating in the seat with a race long perspective, something arnhead never really mastered. That's why all but Kulwicki have, or will have, substantially more victories. And, none of the aforementioned drivers had NASCAR in their hip pocket like ol' arnhead did.
It's also common knowledge that Childress' brother in law was a Cup tech inspector at the time ol' arnhead and RCR was doing most of their winning. Not sayin' just sayin'.Last edited by CIRF; 03-20-2015, 09:36 AM.
