Some guys are smarter. Some guys have more money. You can't do much about that besides work harder. More rules are never the answer.

Especially ones that they can't enforce with any certainty..........or just choose not to enforce at all( like in the descriptions that Jeff gave)

I'm not at all surprised that you would say that........not at all.

I use too have two friends .. I loved them both.. But If they were with me at the same time . They were so much alike that they ended up wanting to kill each other.. one would say something I go Ok but the other one would go what.. Then he say something and the other would go What..It was like if they said too each other they did not get it..I think one of you OVER reads some things and one of you OVER Wrights some things and you booth would just step back and THINK about it, It would not be that bad.. I think you booth sound right to me in some ways and you booth are wrong on somethings.. Gee sounds Like me 1/2 the time I am right and 1/2 the time i am ..au....au......au.......au............ wrong...That was hard..Big A dont be so harsh.. Just research what this did to asphalt racing and get back to me. It's not a hypothetical conversation at this point it has actually happened.

Well Jeff , there is this one........your gloom and doom because of the new series mandate.

This conversation isn't just about those guys either. Mark Richards has a vested interest in seeing those guys with deep pockets still running, but he also does updates and repairs on John Doe's 2007 Rocket that he runs in the LOLMDS and WoO shows at his local tracks. Those are the guys who will be pushed out of competition, and that is very bad for the sport. Some of those guys look forward all year to running with their favorite drivers who they watch on DoD and wherever else. Now instead of using tires they already have they have to roll in and drop a weeks salary just on tires.

If teams get tires from the track it will really hurt the sport. Mark Richards discussed this in depth on Slingin Dirt last week and it is true coming from an asphalt convert here. How can you expect every team to buy 4-6 tires at every race? Forget about the entry fee there is $600-$900 right there before you even pay for fuel, gas in the truck, pit passes, food and entry fee if applicable. Even at only the big events you can count on slashing your car count by 1/4-1/3 at a minimum.

Mark Richards has all the reason in the world to be griping, he makes his living off selling chassis to his (mostly grassroots level) customers who are not the touring guys. If they can't afford to race they won't be buying any chassis off of him. I don't think it would really hurt the house car itself, but I do think it would hurt their business. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who show up to an LOLMDS show or WoO show with maybe a couple new tires and a big used inventory.

I'm assuming you meant all the grass roots guys that made the racing so exciting the past few weeks????

I'm sure all the teams rolling up in 750k haulers are fine with whatever rule is thrown at them. Its the guys rolling up with enclosed one car trailers or even open trailers pulled by their own personal truck that I am worried about.

There are only so many of the hugely funded guys out there and at any given LOLMDS or WoO race half the field is made up of very grassroots level drivers. Even Eldora gets their fair share of low budget teams as well.

We have a car count thread every year where people complain about the current car counts, you expect that those same people will continue to pay for premium priced tickets with even less cars? The sport currently needs every car we can get at every race we can get. The only thing that will happen when the car count goes down is the fan count will go down, and then the track will have to make up that loss by passing on additional expenses to the remaining drivers.

Yup......not so much at eldora this year though??? Weird?

Well since prep is illegal they could just not prep their tires.

I see a lot of "Grassroots" guys buying XR1's. I count at least 4-5 at every single local race I visit. I've even seen a few XR1 Limited Late Models around here. With that said I'm telling you from watching asphalt racing, if they go to selling tires at the track for all series races you will see a bunch of guys never run National races and more still just quitting -- especially if more than just the two national tours went that route. People already complain about $100 entry fees, can you imagine that + a $600-$900 tire bill for EVERY race no matter what? (Whether you qualify or not)

In my neck of the woods it certainly was the last straw. There is some other stuff that contributed to the downfall in most areas but tires are counted as the biggest issue. It has absolutely murdered the little guys. If they are still around they run just one track so that they can put every single tire they purchase into that track inventory. The second they go somewhere else it is like starting over. Not an easy task for a team trying to run a $10k car on a shoestring budget.

None of which feature me saying that not allowing grooving and siping or limiting compunds are going to kill the sport. All of them feature me saying the same thing Ive always said. The tire rules referenced in the article at the start of this thread (requiring all tires to be purchased from the series the day of the race) will hurt the sport and especially the little guys. Limiting compounds and saving racers time by not allowing grooving and siping will not hurt the sport.

Rocket wasn't the first chassis company to price in that ball park. Once you have to start paying engineers to look at your chassis the price is going to go up, he is still selling the Blue front cars for those who can't afford an XR1. It sucks that it got to this point but you can't switch it back now (there is no way to regulate how smart the person who designs your car is). But I do agree regarding the price of cars, it is out of hand and all of the big time chassis companies are guilty (incl. Rocket, Longhorn, Bloomquist, Club 29/Black Diamond, Victory by Moyer and others).

The tire deal would hurt racers though, that is a fact just sit down and think about it. Talk to some (not national touring) teams and see what they think.

Yep, the tire deal killed them at eldora.......none showed up and the ones that did couldn't compete......right???
