There's a real simple answer to the reason for the drop in union membership. Employers hold all the cards. Do some research into what companies do to employees that dare mention Union at work. Start with Walmart. Companies aggressively push the people out who mention Unionization. Just like the housing bubble burst and the Wall Street fat cats blaming it all on people defaulting on their mortgages. Every single study into showed that it was all the Wall Street shenanigans that caused the crash and cost us billions in taxpayer money to prop up all the crooks, but you guys will still say it was your deadbeat neighbor's fault and no one else's.
Like the dude said, you've been fed this line for years about unions being the culprit for your downfall while management outsourced your life and walked away rich at your expense, but hey, they gave you the union as a scapegoat so you wouldn't look anywhere else to see who was pissing all over you, and that's good enough for you, right? Come on Lite, You don't expect us to believe all union members are drunks, getting their jobs back. I know a guy that drank a fifth of Jack every day at work, he never even got fired. He was non union. He did that for 40 years. The one time I was in a union, UAW, if you got your job back, you was going to rehab to get it back. The sad thing is there are a lot of businesses gone now, union and non union. Some are dead set on blaming the unions for every business that failed or moved to Mexico. News Flash, they wasn't all union. They make their wash machines cheaper in Mexico and that increases profit. I don't believe you seen the price decrease on that new Maytag or GE. Did the price of your Ford truck price go down, when they started building the engines in Mexico City? When these businesses move the loss of the jobs in the closed plant are only a small part of the pain. All the stores in that town lost that many consumers and someone else lost that store and it's employees as consumers. Out Sourced business is making the profit and the working class and small businesses are paying the price and you want to blame it on the unions? That makes no sense at all.Comment

BUT BUT BUT, How did the unions cause this? By trying to keep a standard of living that the middle class enjoyed, while most non union jobs where loosing ground. Did they cause this by lobbying for these trade deals that took all the jobs? Did the unions lobby for turning a blind eye to illegal immigration?
You have a twisted way of looking at things. You ignore inflation and say unions are asking for too much, when actually the rest are receiving too little. Businesses are saying the profits aren't there now to give their employees more. Wonder why that would be? They have to compete with 15 cents an hour labor and they cut their own employees labor, which reduces the consumer base. No customer equals no sales. What a revelation!
You can dance around this basic economy thing as long as you can keep your head above water,but the bottom line is, the economy won't become well until there is money in the hand of people that have no other choice but to spend it, and it will die if profits are removed from the circulation. The business model that has become popular is self destructive to most business.Comment
